Your Costco prosecco could explode — nearly 1M bottles recalled over risk

Nearly 1 million bottles of prosecco sold at Costco are being pulled from shelves due to concerns of the bottles shattering.
The Nov. 6 recall involves specific bottles of Ethica Wines’ Kirkland Signature Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said in a statement.
In total, 941,400 bottles are involved after the company received 10 reports of bottles shattering or breaking, resulting in one reported laceration injury, the commission said.
The same products were previously recalled by Costco in September, according to CBS News. At the time, Costco warned that unopened bottles could shatter on their own without being handled.
The recalled prosecco was sold in a green bottle with a purple foil and a purple label. The beverage’s UPC is 196633883742 and the Costco Item Number is 1879870.
The drinks were sold in Costco stores from April through August for around $8 in the following states:
Customers are urged by the CPSC to “immediately stop using the recalled bottles and not attempt to open them.”
Instead, the bottles should be thrown out and customers should contact Ethica Wines for instructions on how to obtain a full refund from Costco.
Customers can call Ethica Wines at 786-810-7132 from Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST or email the company at [email protected].
