Lady Gaga opened up in a new interview about the mental health struggle she suffered during the filming of the hit movie “A Star Is Born.”

The pop icon revealed that she took lithium while making the Oscar-nominated film with Bradley Cooper in an interview with Rolling Stone. Lithium is a mood stabilizer that is used to treat disorders such as mania, hypo-mania, depression and bipolar disorder, according to the National Health Service in England.

The singer also released the album “Joanne” in 2016 and began a tour in 2017. The tour ran from August 2017 to February 2018, and the intense workload brought about a mental health episode, she told Rolling Stone.

“I did ‘A Star Is Born’ on lithium,” Gaga says in the interview. “There was one day that my sister said to me, ‘I don’t see my sister anymore.’ And I canceled the tour.

“There was one day I went to the hospital for psychiatric care. I needed to take a break. I couldn’t do anything … I completely crashed. It was really scary. There was a time where I didn’t think I could get better. … I feel really lucky to be alive. I know that might sound dramatic, but we know how this can go.”

Gaga’s performance in “A Star Is Born” earned her two Oscar nominations and won for best original song, “Shallow.”

The singer says she’s in a better place these days, having found love with fiancé Michael Polansky and now is a “healthy, whole person.”

The couple has been together since 2020, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Being in love with someone that cares about the real me made a very big difference,” Gaga said.

She will hit the road next year as part of “The Mayhem Ball” tour.
