Millennials were pumped when Hilary Duff revealed that she was working on new music for the first time in a decade earlier this year.

So naturally, now that her new single is out, fans have a lot to say — and it’s overwhelmingly positive.

Duff released “Mature” on Friday, Nov. 7, marking the actress-singer’s first material since 2016 when she dropped the single, “Little Lies.” “Mature” was co-written by Duff’s husband, producer Matthew Koma, and Halsey collaborator Madison Love, Billboard reported.

‘“Mature’ speaks to my mature self calling my not so mature self on the phone many years ago, and she’s letting her know we landed softly,” Duff said of the song’s meaning in an Instagram post. “This was a brief time with a lover that left me with so many questions… It felt like a good place to start. How are we feeling… Mature?"

A dreamy pop track with dance and rock inflections, “Mature” has transported fans back to the mid-2000s when Duff’s music career was in full effect.

“Hearing new Hilary Duff music in 2025 is so nostalgic,” one X user wrote. “It’s so so good.”

“Hilary duff woke up one day and decided to reheat Carly Rae Jepsen’s nachos but with a twist from her own recipe AND GUESS WHAT? She saved pop music in 2025,” another X user wrote.

A fellow X user echoed that sentiment by writing, “HILARY RAE DUFF!!!!!! Oh Mature is a BOPPPPPPPP.”

Fans have also called the song “sassy” and “a masterpiece” on Duff’s Instagram post.

“Back with a bang,” one Instagram user commented. “The little gay boy who once looked up at you from the crowd at the Idaho Center in 2004 grew up believing he could be anything. Thank you for that, queen.”

Duff told Billboard in October of that her LGBTQ+ fans were the reason why she’s making music again.

“You know it’s all for them,” she told the outlet. “It’s just to impress them.”

The “Lizzie McQuire” star first hinted that she was working on “new music … or something” in a Sept. 9 Instagram post. The post also included photos of Duff in the studio with Koma. At the time, Variety noted that Duff signed a record deal with Atlantic Records.

Duff first burst onto the music scene with her 2003 album “Metamorphosis” that topped Billboard 200 and has gone on to sell more than 4 million copies, according to the RIAA. She followed up with “Hilary Duff” in 2004 and “Dignity” in 2007. Duff’s most popular songs include “Come Clean,” “So Yesterday,” “Wake Up” and “With Love.”

Over the past decade, Duff has shifted more toward acting. She appeared in “Younger” from 2015 through 2021 before joining “How I Met Your Father,” which lasted for two seasons. Duff is also working on a new docuseries that chronicles her journey back to music and explores her personal life.
