$10 million grant going to cleaner drinking water

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - The Healey-Driscoll Administration is sending more than $10 million to help communities clean up drinking water contaminated with PFAS and manganese.
State officials say 18 public water suppliers will share $10.3 million in grants to treat and remove these “emerging contaminants.”
The program, funded by the EPA and administered by MassDEP, targets chemicals on federal watch lists, including PFAS, a group of manmade compounds linked to organ damage, immune system impact, developmental issues in infants and higher cancer risks.
State environmental leaders say the goal is to help communities modernize drinking water infrastructure now so systems can safely serve residents for decades to come.
