17th annual ‘Tri for Jimmy’ held at Hampton Ponds

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - On Sunday morning, dozens of athletes showed up at Hampton Ponds State Park in Westfield for the 17th annual Tri for Jimmy triathlon.
Tri for Jimmy began in 2009 with a mission to support the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and their mission to provide hope and help develop life saving cancer treatments.
A pre-race clinic to help new runners gets ready for the race happened on Saturday afternoon, prepping runners both new and experience for the challenge ahead. The race itself began shortly after 8 a.m. on Sunday.
