SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - We’re following a huge emergency response in the Forest Park neighborhood of Springfield Thursday night, where flames ripped through a house, leaving it a total loss.

Our news crews were at 30-32 Ruskin Street, capturing flames cutting through the roof, as firefighters were scaling the house. This video was taken around 8 p.m. this evening.

While flames were shooting from the roof, fire had overtaken the back of the house, which our crews weren’t able to capture, since they had to keep a safe distance.

Springfield Fire Officials said they responded to the emergency call around 8:10 p.m. Thursday evening. When fire crews arrived, they spotted heavy fire at the rear of the building and struck the 2nd alarm. The fire has since been put out at this time, a total of 18 people have been displaced from the blaze.

The fire remains under investigation with the Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad.
