SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - A teenager was arrested Friday evening after he was allegedly found to be in possession of a firearm reported stolen out of North Carolina.

West Springfield police and Springfield police approached 18-year-old Jaydan Merced as he was exiting a vehicle around 6:30 p.m. Friday. Police said they had “credible information” that he was possession of a firearm.

Merced fled the scene, but police caught up to him following a short pursuit. A loaded, high-capacity assault style weapon was discovered in the car he exited, according to police.

An investigation determined that the firearm had been reported stolen out of North Carolina. Merced also had two outstanding arrest warrants.
