2025 Weather Wrapped

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - As we get ready to close the book on 2025, we’re taking a look back at the weather we experienced in the past year here in Western Massachusetts.
**All records and data come from Westover in Chicopee, with records going as far back as 1941.**
The year started off cold, with January and February temperatures running below normal. March was above normal, April was below. Then May, June and July ran above normal. August was a little cooler than normal, and the last few months of the year were near normal. A little below normal in December.
We broke several record highs in 2025:
We broke a couple record lows in 2025:
We began 2025 with a leftover drought from 2024. January was a drier than normal month, and then we were near normal February through April. Then once May hit, we saw a ton of rain. We ended May with a 6.2″ surplus. This allowed us to wipe out the 2024 drought, and the surplus carried us over through the year. In fact, May was the 2nd wettest May ever, since 1941.
The second half of the year featured several months that were drier than normal. But, looking at the entire year, we normally see about 44.40″ of precipitation, and in 2025, we had over 42″. Not bad!
Here’s to 2026, Happy New Year!
