Alford man seriously injured after e-bike collision in Great Barrington

GREAT BARRINGTON — A 72-year-old Alford man riding an electric bicycle was seriously injured Monday afternoon after a collision with a car on Stockbridge Road, police said.

The driver was traveling north and turned left onto 249 Stockbridge Road and the car collided with a man on an electric bike.

The cyclist was heading south in the breakdown lane when a 23-year-old Pennsylvania man traveling north turned left into 249 Stockbridge Road and struck him, according to a preliminary investigation and a press release from Police Chief Adam Carlotto.

Police were called at about 4:40 p.m. and the cyclist was taken to Fairview Hospital by Southern Berkshire Ambulance before being airlifted to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

The crash remains under investigation by Great Barrington police with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and detectives assigned to the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office.
