WILBRAHAM, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Car lovers and thrill-seekers will be taking on one of the steepest racing hills in the country in Wilbraham.

The Wilbraham Hill Climb, a tradition that dates back to 1908, is back — sending vintage cars roaring up a 1-mile course with a 23-percent grade, even steeper than the road up Pike’s Peak.

Drivers will battle time, gravity, and each other for a shot at the title “king of the mountain.”

The event runs from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Featuring hill climb racing, a car show, crafts and vendors all day, and food trucks. Organizers say the day isn’t just about speed, it’s a living piece of auto history.

Hill climb racing began as a way for manufacturers to show off power of their products, influencing the high-performance cars we see today.
