SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - An upcoming ballot question could repeal a 2016 ballot question that legalized recreational marijuana sales in Massachusetts.

A legal challenge over petition signatures failed, prompting the “Act to Restore Sensible Marijuana Policy,” the question to come in November.

A repeal could potentially have a major impact on local shops. It’ll decide whether or not they can keep operating, what happens to licensing, and how quickly the rules could change.

It could also hit communities hard that rely on marijuana tax revenue to help support local budgets.

Tanner Velasquez, a manager at Zaza Green Cannabis Dispensary in Springfield said employees are worried about what a repeal could mean for their livelihoods. He said he’s concerned about what happens if people lose access to regulated, tested products.

“We are worried,” he said. “For most of us it is our livelihood, a lot of us have been doing this for a long time.”

Some people could turn to the street market if the repeal passes which could come with safety risks.
