HOLYOKE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - The suspect in a deadly shooting at the Holyoke Mall back in 2023 will be in court for a change of plea hearing set for May 21st.

Kenneth Santana-Rodriguez was originally charged with first degree murder after authorities say he shot and killed 33-year-old Trung “Michael” Tran, who was an innocent bystander, working at a Salon in the mall.

Now, just this last fall, in October, the state’s highest court ruled that Santana-Rodriguez could argue he fired the gun in self-defense, court documents show that the shooting happened after another man came in and started an argument with Santana-Rodriguez.
