Cheshire town election lacks contested races, but write-in campaigns are expected

CHESHIRE — Candidates for the town election are lacking this year, as there are no contested races and a vacancy for a Cheshire representative for the Hoosac Valley Regional School District Committee.
Newcomer Mark Biagini is running unopposed for one open seat on the Select Board. The seat is for a three-year term. Current Select Board Vice Chair Jason Levesque is not seeking reelection.
Newcomer William Moreau is also running unopposed for one open seat on the Planning Board. The seat is for a five-year term.
Seeking reelection and running unopposed are Assessors Barbara Astorino and Frederick Hobart, Cemetery Commissioner Stephen LaFogg and Water Commissioner Colin Haas. Newcomers running unopposed are Michael Biagini Jr. for a three-year term on the Board of Health and Kyle Malloy for a three-year term as Adams representative on the Hoosac Valley Regional School District Committee.
Despite no contested races, Town Clerk Whitney Flynn wrote in an email to The Eagle on Wednesday that she has been informed that individuals are seeking write-in campaign votes for offices. Flynn said she is certain that will be the case for the Board of Health seat and the Select Board seat.
“I anticipate the candidates for these [two] offices will be campaigning on election day,” Flynn said.
Polls are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 4 at the Community House cafeteria, 191 Church St.
