Court docs reveal new details in deadly South End Bridge crash

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - New details in the fatal hit-and-run that killed a Springfield motorcyclist just last week. The Hampden District Attorney’s Office said an arrest has been made, and the suspect is being held on a $1.5 million cash bail.
The D.A.’s Office said that 25-year-old Jonathan Rivera of Springfield is now facing serious charges for the death of 39-year-old Miguel Cruz on the South End Bridge last Thursday night.

Western Mass News obtained the court documents from this case that state emergency crews responded to the bridge around 6:45 p.m. Thursday May 7th following reports that a car struck a motorcycle. Cruz was taken to Baystate Medical Center in serious condition, where he later died from his injuries. Investigators said witnessed reported that the driver of the car pulled over after hitting the motorcycle, then a passenger got out, got onto the motorcycle, and drove it away, with the car following behind.
Bail has been ordered by the judge to be set at $1.5 million dollar surety bond or $1.5 million dollars in cash. In the meantime, Rivera is being held at the Hampden County House of Corrections. Rivera is also currently on probation out of Greenfield District Court through June 24th.
Rivera is set to return to court on June 9th for a pretrial hearing, and he has pleaded not guilty on all charges. The case remains under investigation by Massachusetts State Police and the Hampden County district attorney’s office.
