Deer collision shuts down Route 8 in Cheshire Friday morning

CHESHIRE — A one-vehicle crash blocked traffic on Route 8 early Friday morning.
Massachusetts State Police Sgt. Gregory Jones said a box truck driving on Route 8 near the Cheshire State Police barracks struck a deer in the roadway at about 5 a.m. Friday morning.
The truck, headed northbound, was driven by Davon Baily-Waldon, 31, of Norwalk, Conn.
The crash caused guardrail damage and knocked over a speed limit sign in the southbound lane. The busy roadway was closed for a time during the morning commute, according to a Facebook post by the Cheshire Police Department.
No injuries were reported. The deer did not survive.
