(WGGB/WSHM) - The Justice Department announced on Thursday, June 18th that 15 people have been arrested and charged in a benefits fraud scheme here in Massachusetts. Federal prosecutors said the case involved nearly $1.5 million in fraud.

The suspects, multiple who are not legal residents, allegedly targeted government assistance.

Alleged cases of benefit fraud have been a target of President Donald Trump’s Administration.

The labor department sent a letter to all 50 state governors — warning them to get serious in fighting fraud and waste in unemployment insurance.
