SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Officials, community members and event partners joined the Springfield Symphony Orchestra on Wednesday morning to reveal the details of this year’s 4th annual Juneteenth Freedom Concert.

Despite the lack of ARPA, or the American Rescue Plan, funding they’ve received over the last three years for the concert, the Springfield community is banding together to keep this important event alive.

Partners from White Lion Brewing Company and 6Brick’s shared the new format for this year’s event. The Performances will be smaller in scale, as the concert will be held in town square — rather than its previous location at Springfield Symphony Hall. That being said, the orchestra is still set to play, along with other performers including jazz legend Avery Sharpe.

“As we think about the programming that will be coming to the forefront in just a few short weeks, it’s honestly the coming together of businesses, of artists, community leaders, that are paving the way in more than just one lane in many. And it’s the cross-section that brings us all together that is truly something to celebrate,” said founder of 6Brick’s LLC Payton Shubrick.

As always, the event on June 19th is free and open to the public. Festivities will begin at 11 a.m. with a flag raising at Springfield City Hall — before moving to town square at noon.
