PALMER, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Officials believe a car crash in Palmer around 4:30 p.m. Friday night was caused by a reckless driver under the influence of alcohol.

You can see the damage to both the car and telephone poles in this photo shared by the Palmer Police Department, this led to the road being closed for hours. Police said the driver lost control after trying to pass another car at a high rate of speed on Route 181.

They were transported to a local hospital for minor injuries, but will have to deal with operating under the influence, negligent operation of a vehicle, and other traffic violations.
