The man sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to North Adams Regional Hospital, North Adams police said.

NORTH ADAMS — A 68-year-old driver was taken to the hospital Wednesday after his vehicle veered off State Road, struck a utility pole and knocked out power to hundreds of homes and businesses, police said.

Police requested an immediate threat suspension of the man's driver's license after determining medical issues likely caused the crash, Police Chief Mark Bailey said.

The man sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to North Adams Regional Hospital, Bailey said.

At about 12:35 p.m., the man was traveling west, left his lane, crossed the road and hit a utility pole, said Bailey.

A single-vehicle car crash in front of Carr Hardware on State Road sent the driver to the hospital Wednesday afternoon and resulted in police requesting his license be suspended after he veered off the road and hit a utility pole.

The crash knocked out power to hundreds of nearby homes and businesses and closed State Road for about an hour while crews repaired the damaged utility pole.

A single-vehicle car crash in front of Carr Hardware on State Road sent the driver to the hospital Wednesday. It's the second crash in a week that knocked down a utility pole on that road.

Bailey said the man was issued a citation for failing to stay in his lane in addition to the request to suspend his license.

The crash was the second in the last week within a half-mile stretch of West Main Street and State Road that knocked over a utility pole and resulted in hundreds losing power in the area.

On July 14, a two-vehicle crash on West Main Street near Goodrich Street sent one person to the hospital and shut down the street after knocking down a utility pole. The street was closed for multiple hours.

The driver of one vehicle was arrested on charges of operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, possessing alcohol in a motor vehicle and a marked lanes violation.

Saturday night, three people were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries after a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of River and Houghton streets caused one car to spin around from impact.

Tuesday evening around 4:30 p.m., emergency services responded to another two-vehicle accident at the River and Houghton street intersection where no one was transported to the hospital.
