WESTFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Our coverage now goes to how drivers are looking to beat the snow tonight. The snowfall has gotten underway here in parts of western Mass, including right here at park square in Westfield.

In fact, you can see drivers in the heart of the town just going their merry way. That could change in a matter of hours as the precipitation is expected to get harder throughout the night. The snow did not come before some clouds and sun, which had been visible for most of the day. That being said, our crew stopped by a gas station just off of Route 20.

During the late afternoon, we witnessed many cars on the road, including drivers who were looking to either complete errands or at least get home from wherever they were earlier in the day and beat this winter storm.

One driver, Tyler Martin, stopped by to fuel up his vehicle, telling us he was getting prepared for much of the day, “I threw out some salt on the driveway to make sure it (the snow) doesn’t stick. I noticed I had no gas in my car, so I had to come out here and fill that up. If you don’t know, you should not have an empty tank when it’s snowing.”

We reached out to the Westfield Department of Public Works to see what the plow and crew situation was like for today. So far, we have not heard back.

Drivers, though, are advised to just be careful out on the roads, both main and side, as this snow is expected to fall for quite some time.
