East Longmeadow buries new time capsule to be opened in 2076

EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - While we don’t know what western Mass. Will be like in the year 2076; East Longmeadow neighbors will have an idea of what their town looks like — 50 years from now.
On Thursday, East Longmeadow buried a time capsule in Heritage Park filled with memorabilia submitted by people in town. The project spear-headed by the Historical Commission is to preserve history and show those in the future a snapshot of what our lives look like in the present.
The 2026 time capsule is now buried in the same place where the one from 1976 was dug up in May. The chair of the commission, Christine Devlin, shared what was found in the ’76 capsule and what this year’s capsule will be like half a century from now, “In the 1976 Capsule, we found things such as cassette tapes, 8mm film, old photographs, and letters. We can listen to music, record video, take photographs, and send text messages or emails that arrive in a matter of seconds. And that brings to mind what may be obsolete 50 years from now.”
One thing to note — the 1976 capsule was found compromised with a water leak. The historical commission said they still managed to save many items of those items, most of which were photos.
They’re set to be revealed at an event at the Pleasantview Senior Center on August 6th.
