Easthampton leaders release joint statement condemning antisemitism in schools

EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Leaders in Easthampton released a joint statement on Tuesday after antisemitic symbols were found drawn on school property.
The incident occurred last week when swastikas were found drawn with chalk on the playground of Mountain View School. Parents were informed on Wednesday.
At the time, Superintendent Michelle Balch said that an investigation is ongoing and that hate will not be tolerated.
On Tuesday, Balch along with Easthampton Mayor Salem Derby and interim executive director of the Jewish Federation of Western Mass. Adam Solender released a joint statement.
“Easthampton is a community that cares deeply about one another. In difficult moments, we do not fracture; we come together to reflect, protect, and reaffirm the kind of community we want to be,” the statement read. “Together, we remain unconditionally committed to fostering an Easthampton where all people are welcomed, celebrated, supported, and safe.”
