E.J. Gare Parking Garage to partially close Monday

NORTHAMPTON, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - The City of Northampton said that they’ll be looking to partially close the E.J. Gare Parking Garage on Monday, March 23rd.
The reason for the partial closure is due to the fact that significant damage to the structure has been spotted starting from the third level upwards.
Repairs will also be made to stairwells, closing down one at a time, and starting with the one facing the Armory Street parking lot.
Officials also said that the garage will remain open up to the third floor, and that access will remain open to Thornes Marketplace.
The closures will remain in place until further notice, Mayor Gina-Louise Sciarra released a statement saying, “we recognize this will be an inconvenience, but these steps are necessary as we assess the structure and plan for next steps. We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation and will continue to share updates.”
