Emergency crews battle 3-alarm fire in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - On Sunday afternoon, emergency crews were sent to the intersection of Springfield Street and Chestnut Street for a report of a structure fire.

The first call came in around the morning, fire crews were sent to the home for reports of a porch fire. Crews quickly put out that fire without any injuries.

Later on that Sunday afternoon, crews were sent back to that house for another call of a fire in the attic of the home. The flames began to spread throughout the side of the house.

Western Mass News spoke with Springfield Fire Department Commissioner B.J. Calvi, who told us there was thankfully no injury to both residents and firefighters.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
