MONSON, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Crews responded to a fiery scene out of Monson Sunday morning after a person drove off the road and had to pull themselves out of their burning car. Monson Fire and Police were alerted of the accident just after 1 a.m.

They arrived at 146 Lower Hampden Road to find the driver was able to get themselves out of the car but needed to be taken to the hospital to be treated for serious injuries.

Fire officials told us there were only two on duty members, with three others responding to the scene from their homes, they also said the lack of available crew members on duty limits their ability to act during situations like these.

Hampden Fire Department was requested to the scene for assistance. The cause of the accident is being investigated.
