Eversource gives update on streetlight transition to LED in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - This week, we’ve been following concerns over street lighting in Springfield, which some State Street neighbors say is a factor in how many, and how often, crashes happen there. On Friday, Mayor Domenic Sarno and other city officials met with Eversource to address the matter.
Mayor Sarno expressed his appreciation for community members bringing attention to the issue. He says work is still underway to enhance streetlights, by retrofitting them with LED’s, and adding new ones to areas not adequately-lit.
According to numbers Eversource presented during today’s meeting -- this year, nearly 4-thousand streetlights have been replaced, and over a thousand repair ticket work orders have been completed. Over the last three years, Eversource has replaced around 13-thousand lights. Out of the 2,300 decorative lights throughout Springfield, more than 400 of them are on state street, over 50 of which have been converted to LED’s.
Mayor Sarno assured this progress will continue.
