Dylan Graveline was working on his laptop in the Dam Café when a group of men at the next table began mocking people on food stamps.

“I’m sitting here, trying to do my schoolwork in hopes of becoming a teacher, for God’s sake,” he recalled over the clatter in the Holyoke café. “And there’s people around me claiming that everyone who gets SNAP benefits is lazy and abusing the system.”
