SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Crews were called to Liberty Street around 6 p.m. for a report of a house fire with smoke reportedly coming out of the first floor of a house under construction.

Springfield Fire Commissioner BJ Calvi told us no one was inside when fire crews went in and that flames were quickly knocked down, “We’re investigating now. We’re going to call it suspicious at this time, because these are brand new construction buildings with no power to them.”

The investigation is currently underway by the Springfield’s Arson and Bomb Squad.
