SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Those living near the Westover Airport should expect the skies to be unusually busy later this week as flight training commences.

Eighteen pilots and their aircraft will be doing the training Thursday through the weekend in the inaugural yankee beech formation clinic.

People living close by have the chance to watch pilots practicing close-formation maneuvers, coordinated takeoffs and landings, and precision flying exercises.

Not only is it a remarkable training opportunity, organizers say it’s also a celebration of aviation with hundreds of pilots from across the country expected at one of New England’s most historic air fields.
