Former karate instructor sentenced for sexual assualt

ENFIELD, CT (WGGB/WSHM) - A 24-year-old Enfield man has been convicted of sexually assaulting a teen student at a martial arts studio where he worked as an instructor.
Officials said a jury found Aaron Stiles guilty of 2nd degree sexual assault, 3rd degree sexual assault and 1st degree unlawful restraint a week ago. Prosecutors said the 16-year-old victim was enrolled as a student at the Enfield studio when Stiles, then 21, was employed there as a certified instructor.
Jurors heard testimony about a pattern of sexually inappropriate conduct, including a specific incident in May 2022, when Stiles followed her into a changing area, grabbed her by the throat and assaulted her.
Stiles is scheduled to be sentenced in Hartford Superior Court in May.
