MONSON, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - An update from that devastating house fire in Monson last week, the fire left seven people without a place to live, and one man with severe injuries. Western Mass News spoke with that man’s partner and how a GoFundMe page is trying to get the family back on their feet.

A house fire ripped through this house in Monson, 433 Lower Hampden Road, leaving one man in critical condition.

“(It’s) Rough. Very overwhelming, and he’s slowly, slowly, slowly making milestones and improving. It’s a very, very long road of recovery,” Brittney Larck had lived at the multi-family home for seven years. Herself and her son weren’t home when the fire started, but her partner, Billy Brown, was.

According to the GoFundMe page, Brown is currently being treated at Mass General Hospital in Boston for 3rd degree burns on 40% of his body; as well as a collapsed lung, numerous broken bones including his neck, pelvis, and all of the ribs on his right side. Injuries he sustained jumping from the second floor in order to escape.

For Brittney, who’s now staying near the hospital to visit Brown, the support the family has received has meant everything, “It’s been a tremendous help. It truly has. Between the clothes donations and the GoFundMe donations, people are donating gift cards to help with gas and to help try to rebuild everything that we’ve lost,” the GoFundMe has been up now for seven days with 113 donations, and with a goal of $15,000, the total currently stands at a little over $13,000, “Everything’s helped. Everything, everyone continues to help. It’s been devastating,”

Monson Fire Chief Brian Harris told Western Mass News that there are no new updates on what caused the fire, and it remains an active investigation. If you’d like to donate, the link to the GoFundMe can be found here.
