Golden Gloves boxing tournament kicks off
SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - A special event is coming for sports fans here in Springifeld. Western New England Golden Gloves is back, and boxers are fighting it out for first place. The Central City Boxing and Barbell Gym in Springfield is hosting the annual four-week amateur boxing tournament beginning on Saturday night.
For the next four Saturdays, the best amateur boxers in western New England will fight to represent the western Mass community.
The winners will then move on to the New England Golden Gloves, where they will compete for the right to represent New England at the National Golden Gloves Tournament of champions being held later this year in Oklahoma.
