Gov. Healey announces new safety regulations one year after nursing home fire

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Governor Maura Healey announced a finalized set of new safety regulations for those in assisted living after a fire killed ten people in Fall River.
On July 13, 2025, a fire broke out on the second floor of Gabriel House assisted living residence and quickly spread.
Ten people died and dozens more were injured.
New safety regulations will strengthen protections for those living in assisted living residences across the state and will include annual fire inspections, Healey said.
Other reforms will include enhanced emergency preparedness plans, proper medical devices available at every residence, CPR and AED-certified staff at all times, and overnight safety checks.
