Grants for conservation projects awarded across western Mass.

(WGGB/WSHM) - $2.2 million is going toward environmental conservation — mainly in western Mass.
Nearly $315,000 awarded to the Jackson Brook Conservation Project — protecting almost 500 acres of the watershed in Worthington. It’s a critical habitat for species like moose, bobcats, and sandhill cranes, as well as for water filtration and flood storage.
More than $730 million is for the Stone Mountain Conservation Project, preserving 800 acres of forest in Colrain, along with the North River and tributaries in Heath. Over $1.5 million in private funding is part of the plan, creating a 6,000-acre corridor in Franklin County.
