Grants totaling $1.6 million going to local farms

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - The Healey-Driscoll administration is sending new money to Bay State farms, announcing $1.6 million in grants for 63 agricultural businesses across Massachusetts.
The Climate Smart for Agriculture “Farm Readiness” grants will help farmers pay for installation-ready upgrades like more efficient equipment, better cold storage, soil health and compost tools, and precision agriculture technology.
Atlas Farm in Deerfield and Bardwell Farm in Hatfield will benefit among others.
State leaders say the goal is to boost productivity, cut costs and keep local food flowing while helping farms deal with operational challenges and extreme weather.
