NORTH ADAMS — The demolition of the former Greylock Elementary School in North Adams began on April 17. The school, which was built in 1951, closed in 2024.

In February, the North Adams Public Schools building committee picked general contractor Fontaine Bros. to rebuild the school. The new elementary school building is expected to be open as early as the fall of 2027.

City and school officials will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Greylock Elementary School at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, at 100 Phelps Ave.
