Hearing rescheduled for woman accused of firing officer’s gun

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - A dangerousness hearing has been rescheduled for a woman accused of firing a West Springfield officer’s gun during an altercation last month.
Kristin Rechenberger was supposed to be in court on Tuesday, but, at the request of both sides, the hearing has been rescheduled to June 29.
In the area of Riverdale Street and Pierce Street, on the morning of May 8, investigators said they found who they believed to be a homeless woman sleeping at a construction site.
They tried to get her to move but police said she became argumentative, disruptive, assaultive, and non-compliant.
She gained control of an officer’s gun while they tried to place her under arrest and fired a shot in the officers’ direction, investigators said. No one was injured.
Doctors said she had severe mental illness. She was held at the women’s facility in Chicopee without the right to bail.
