SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - A Holyoke man has been sentenced for raping a woman he agreed to drive home after a night out in Westfield.

36-year-old Alexander Theroux was handed 5 to 7 years in state prison, followed by 3 years of probation after a Hampden Superior Court Judge found him guilty of two counts of rape and assault.

Prosecutors said the July 8th, 2023, assault happened while the victim was disoriented and texting friends for help. Theroux reportedly drove past her home multiple times while ignoring her objections.

The court reviewed text messages, witness testimony, and forensic findings from a sexual assault exam that supported her account. According to the Hampden County District Attorney’s office, the victim told the court she finally felt able to breathe again after the verdict and sentencing — and praised her courage for coming forward.
