SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - It is so important to keep veterans in our minds and our hearts, especially during the holiday season. Holyoke is doing just that with the first ever Veterans Park Tree Lighting.

Across the street from the Holyoke Transit Center, Eliseo Diaz hosted Veterans Park’s first tree lighting as they honor the veterans that lay there by shining a light on a space dedicated to their service and sacrifice.

“Christmas, more than just a day on the calendar, is a feeling, is a gentle reminder that kindness matters. That generosity has power and the togetherness we can give each other every single day,” said Diaz.

The event began at 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, bringing a new holiday tradition of joy and unity to Holyoke.
