HOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - If your child is attending school in Holyoke on Tuesday, here’s what’s changing and what you need to send with them.

The district is limiting outdoor time to protect students and staff from this week’s dangerous heat.

Recess is being cut short, gym class is moving inside, and schools are keeping a close eye on the thermometer as Holyoke Public Schools says they are not taking any chances with this heat.

There is air conditioning in the schools, but they’re still asking families to send their children to school with a full water bottle to stay hydrated. Once inside, students can refill at water bottle stations available in every building.

The district is also reminding the entire community to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioning, stay out of the sun and check on your neighbors.

Most importantly, never leave a child or pet unattended in a vehicle under any circumstances.
