Hundreds gather to celebrate First Night in Northampton

NORTHAMPTON, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - First Night celebrations were officially underway in Northampton. Western Mass News headed to the city’s downtown area after speaking with folks attending the festivities.
Even though it’s chilly outside, that’s not stopping folks from stepping out and seeing everything Northampton has to offer. Fireworks went Off Outside Hotel Northampton at 6:15 p.m.
Festivities kicked off here in Northampton at noon. The city’s signature New Year’s Eve celebration offers more than 100 performances and events for guests of all ages and includes a diverse lineup of music, dance, magic, theater, and community activities across dozens of venues in the downtown area.
Just a short while ago we spoke with folks walking around to those fun First Night destinations. They told Western Mass News attending first night is something they do every year, “It’s a tradition for me I grew up here I’ve lived here since I was three so I just love coming and seeing all the music and bumping into people I haven’t not seen in a while,” said Mackenzie Steiner.
At 11:30 p.m. people gathered together outside for the countdown and ball raising at Hotel Northampton at Midnight.
