SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Hundreds of volunteers came out to Springfield Saturday for a major clean-up effort in the city.

It was all a part of the Green-n-Fit Neighborhood Clean-Up with Revitalize CDC and the Boys and Girls Club of Springfield.

The nonprofit organization helped to repair 18 homes and spruce up the Boys and Girls Club’s on Carew Street and on Acorn Street.

We spoke with Chief Operating Officer at the Boys and Girls Club of Springfield Chiarina Sarno about what this means to community and the kids, “when the kids see a beautiful club here, they light up, and they love to see a clean safe beautiful space. So, I think they’re just very grateful.”

More than 800 volunteers were part of the event.
