Identity released of person who crashed car, shot bystander at Sturbridge hotel

STURBRIDGE, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - On Thursday, June 25th, the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office released the identity of the woman who rammed her car into a hotel located at 400 Haynes Street in Sturbridge, leading to her own death.

27-year-old Olive Openshaw of Belchertown rammed her car into the building just before 1 a.m. on June 18th in search of two other people. One bystander unrelated to the incident who was within the lobby of the hotel was shot. That person was taken to the hospital where they remain in critical condition.

Police made contact with Openshaw and attempted to talk to her. However, Openshaw fired the gun on herself. First responders tried life-saving measures, but were unsuccessful.

The investigation remains ongoing with the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
