GREENFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Greenfield residents will see a nine-percent increase to their water bill at the start of the new year.

Sewer usage rates will also go up by the same amount.

Starting January 1, 2027, the water usage rate will increase from $4.76 to $5.19 per 100 cubic feet. In addition, the sewer usage rate will go up from $8.01 to $8.73.

“I know that many of our residents are feeling strapped for cash right now,” said Mayor Virginia Desorgher. “Unfortunately, our aged infrastructure continues to need maintenance and replacement. We also need to prepare for emergency responded as our weather becomes more extreme and less predictable.”

The city said the increased rates will also pay for necessary equipment purchases for the Department of Public Works.
