Man arrested after armed standoff with North Adams Police

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - A North Adams man is facing a long list of charges after an overnight armed standoff at his home. Police said 43-year-old Matthew Parker has been charged with domestic assault and battery, assault with intent to murder, and multiple firearms offenses.
Officers responded to his Houghton Street home Wednesday night after a reported domestic incident, and his wife said Parker was drunk, making suicidal threats, and had access to guns.
Parker threatened to shoot officers, then went into the house and refused to leave. A special response team and crisis negotiators spent hours on scene eventually entering the house after spotting Parker unconscious in a chair.
They took Parker into custody, and seized four shotguns, six rifles, two handguns and thousands of rounds of ammunition. Parker is due in court Friday.
