Man shot by officer near Springfield College facing charges

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - A man who allegedly fired at officers and was then shot near Springfield College last week is facing charges.

On Friday, a shelter-in-place was issued at the school after an alleged incident on Massachusetts Avenue.

According to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, the Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit were conducting an investigation when they were shot at. A state police cruiser was hit by gunfire as troopers fired back at the suspects.

Donte Davidson was shot and taken to Baystate Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries, according to the Hampden DA’s office.

He is now facing charges of assault to murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, malicious damage to a motor vehicle, carrying a firearm without a license, and possession of a firearm.

Two other suspects are involved in the case.
