BOSTON (WGGB/WSHM) - Governor Maura Healey signed the fiscal 2027 state budget, a spending plan she said lowers costs for families, invests in schools and transportation, and does it without raising any new taxes or fees.

The $63 billion budget fully funds the final year of the Student Opportunity Act, keeps free school meals and free community college in place, and expands child care assistance to about 72,000 children.

It also pours money into transportation. Including the MBTA and regional transit authorities, boosts local aid for cities and towns, and funds big housing and health care initiatives, like extended ConnectorCare coverage.

State leaders said the plan stays fiscally cautious, building up rainy day funds.
