BOSTON (WGGB/WSHM) - Massachusetts is investing $5 million to boost mental health support in early childhood education and care programs.

5 regional organizations have been chosen to provide statewide early childhood mental health consultation through the Department of Early Education and Care. The grants will help family child care, preschool, head start and after-school programs bring in specialists to coach educators, observe classrooms and create behavior support plans.

They’ll also focus on trauma-informed practices and connect families to community services like early intervention, special education and behavioral health. The support is aimed at strengthening kids’ social-emotional skills and school readiness.
