MassDOT to hold hearing to help solve traffic congestion in West Springfield

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has a meeting set to be held with the public about a railroad crossing in West Springfield.
The state said there are longstanding traffic congestion and safety concerns at the crossing at Front Street and First Street and they want to change that. Officials said existing conditions stop traffic a minimum of 45 minutes to an hour every day. On Thursday, June 25th, a meeting will be held to discuss eliminating the railroad crossings.
MassDOT is suggesting the implementation of vehicle lanes, bike lanes and sidewalks instead.
If you’d like to share your opinion, you can do so during public comment at West Springfield Town Hall at 6 p.m.
