SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Dozens of volunteers from MGM spent Thursday morning placing American flags on the graves of veterans at Springfield Cemetery on Maple Street.

There are more than 15,000 memorials and gravestones at the site — hundreds belonging to those who served in the U.S. Military.

We spoke to MGM’s Director of Philanthropy and Community Engagement Jennifer McGrath to find out why this partnership with Springfield’s Department of Veteran Services hits so close to home, “In this specific cemetery, you’re looking at hundreds of gravestones that represent active military, whether from Springfield or surrounding areas. And for us, as MGM, this is so important because we actually have active team members and certainly their families that have served. And it’s an honor and privilege to support, and our team loves this event.”

Again, be sure to take a moment this Monday to remember the troops who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
